Innovation in South Moravia is on the rise. The success of the Carebot project proves it
Two years ago, a pair of young entrepreneurs founded the technology company Carebot in Rozdrojovice near Brno. Daniel Kvak, the current CEO of the company, entered the project in the first year of the Start Your Business competition, where it received the highest support. There are now fifteen Carobot members and they work with four dozen doctors across Europe. They want to use AI to help radiologists detect lung problems, including cancer.
"We had five differently experienced doctors describe several hundred images. The youngest doctor with the least experience detected findings in less than a third of the cases, the best doctor with 20 years of experience had a success rate of 81 percent, and the AI even 91 percent," describes the company's CEO Matěj Misař.
This autumn, they expect to obtain the necessary certification so that their technology can be deployed in hospitals in live operation. "But the one who makes the diagnosis will always be the doctor," Misař rules out the possibility of AI replacing radiologists.
Last year, his company received a significant injection of around CZK 10 million from an as yet unknown investor. "However, this is not the entire investment," says the director, adding that they are already working on improving diagnostics using artificial intelligence for other examinations, such as breast cancer.
